Organizations that provide funding or support in kind to help Mpilonhle carry out its mission ...
Here is a list and brief description on each of our supporters and how they help us bring aid and education to better the lives of those less fortunate.
PEPFAR
PEPFAR has provided funding to Mpilonhle since October 2007. They are the largest financial supporter of the program, providing funds for the operations of the three mobile units that Mpilonhle maintains, and for the central administrative structure of the organization.
PEPFAR funds for Mpilonhle are administered by USAID and then by Family Health International
Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTOAP)
The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project was, along with Oprah’s Angels Network, an initial supporter of the program. They first provided funding to Mpilonhle beginning in March 2007. CTAOP, along with Oprah’s Angel Network, provided funds for all of the start-up costs of Mpilonhle – including program and curriculum design, and design and purchase of the original mobile unit.
CTAOP remains an active supporter of Mpilonhle, providing funds for Mpilonhle’s sports and health program. CTAOP’s founder and director – Ms. Charlize Theron - a frequent visitor to the project.
Oprah’s Angel Network (OAN)
OAN was with the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project the original philanthropies providing funds to Mpilonhle. OAN provided with CTAOP funded all of the start-up costs of the program, and OAN staff was essential in helping to get the program going, and overcoming hurdles it faced in its infancy.
ONA and it staff remain involved in support of Mpilonhle, having recently arranged the visit of the OneSight clinic to provide eye services to 15,000 students and community members.
Los Angeles Futbol Club-Chelsea Foundation (LAFC)
The LAFC foundation is partnering with CTAOP and Mpilonhle to improve sports facilities and activities in the Mpilonhle catchment area, and to integrated health prevention and education initiatives with sports.
IPAS
Ipas Is dedicated to the protecting woman’s health and advancing their reproductive rights. They have provided funding to Mpilonhle to work with adolescent mothers to improve their health and that of their children, and also to provide training to teachers about adolescent reproductive health.
South African Sugar Association (SASA)
South Africa Sugar Association has provided Mpilonhle funding to support a food parcel program to assist orphaned youth who are heading households and going to school at the same time.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) 50x 15 Initiative
The 50 x 15 initiative of AMD aims to assist in providing computer and internet access to ½ of the world’s population by 2015. They have contributed 72 Inveneo computers for the Mpilonhle computer labs, along with networking devices.
Woolworth Trust
The Woolworth Trust has assisted Silethukukhanya School and Mpilonhle establish and improved soccer pitch with lights and water for irrigation, drinking, and sanitation. This field will be a model for the other fields Mpilonhle hopes to build in the District.
OneSight
OneSight is the charitable arm of the eyewear company Luxottica and it provides global vision services to impoverished communities internationally. OneSight, assisted by OAN staff, provided eyewear services to 14,000 persons in the Mpilonhle catchment area, including providing eyeglasses to more than 5,000 persons.
