What I do at Mpilonhle

I am the Health Education Co-ordinator responsible for the curriculum delivery at Mpilonhle. I am the co-author, with Scott Pulizi from Boston, of the curriculum. The curriculum delivery involves scheduling of the educational activities of all schools in the project in consultation with the Department of Education, Principals of schools and Life Orientation educators.

I also conduct Health Education sessions for both learners and educators which is the main reason why I love what I do so much! It gives me the chance to see the world through the teen’s eyes and my colleagues, the educators. The sessions we have change behavioural patterns that are risky by sharing information that makes one rethink about life and make informed decisions.

Something about me

I was born to educate, but also to create or be a platform where teenagers talk about stuff (that’s how they refer to life issues). I have been an educator for 13yrs (employed by the Department of Education) and 5yrs of those years I was in school management team. I felt that I was not doing what I was ordained to do on this planet, so I therefore resigned from the Department, which was not an easy decision indeed, in July 2006.

When I joined the Mpilonhle organisation July 2007 it was like “Hello, were you not looking for this?” The Power above us all found me a platform to make a difference that South Africa needs.

Who is Gugu then?

I am a mother of two beautiful girls and one handsome boy whose dad passed on in 2003. I read a lot, love movies, am a music fanatic, write when I feel like it and love the gift of life! A woman with a 24hr smile, no matter what is being thrown at her by life.
