Our Partners for the Sports and Health sector

Organizations that work with Mpilonhle to help us carry out our mission with regards to Sports and Health …

Here is a list and brief description on each of our partners and how they help us bring aid and education to better the lives of those less fortunate.

Unicef

Recognizing the power of sports to positively influence behaviour and improve social development, Unicef has partnered with Mpilonhle since January 2010 to fund a broad range of Sports & Health activities, particularly the organization and/or sponsorship of youth soccer tournaments at which Mpilonhle’s mobile health services are available. In addition to this support, Mpilonhle utilizes Unicef’s “Coaching Boys into Men” curriculum in several programme activities to strengthen health education and mentorship trainings relating to gender violence and equality.

Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTOAP)

The Charlize Theron Africa Otreach Project (CTAOP) has been a strong supporter of Mpilonhle since it’s founding in October 2008. Most recently, CTAOP has begun focusing their support on Mpilonhle’s new Sports & Health Programme, particularly with respect to the construction of new sports facilities at partner schools. CTAOP was an important partner in the construction of Mpilonhle’s first such sports facility (at Silethukukhanya High School) and has pledged their continued support for the development of additional facilities.

LAFC FOUNDATION

The LAFC Foundation is a Los Angeles based non-profit community development foundation associated with the LAFC Chelsea Futbol Club. LAFC Chelsea is one of the most successful youth soccer clubs in the United States and an official partner of English Premier League powerhouse Chelsea FC. Since June 2009, LAFC Chelsea has worked with Mpilonhle to improve organizational and material support of both high school and community based youth soccer teams in the Umkhanyakude District.

Homefield Advantage

Homefield Advantage is a development foundation committed to improving the wellbeing of children by focusing on five critical needs: Water, Hunger, Healthcare, Education and Play. Mpilonhle’s Sports & Health Programme has proven to be a natural fit with Homefield Advantage’s focus and objectives and has partnered with them provide adequate water schemes at all new sports facilities constructed as part of the programme.

Grassroot Soccer

Since April 2009, Mpilonhle has built a strong partnership with Grassroot Soccer to implement an innovative peer-based mentorship and health education program in partner schools. A key component of this program is the utilization of Grassroot Soccer’s “Skillz” curriculum. This approach helps young people engage in relevant and important discussion about life, take small steps to achieve their goals, be resilient when faced with challenges, and protect themselves and other from HIV and AIDS. Grassroot Soccer provides all the trainings and equipment support necessary for Skillz activities and is working as a close partner of Mpilonhle to attract additional programme support.
