Mpilonhle Electronic Registration 2010

06 Feb 2010

The past 2 weeks Mpilonhle is busy doing Electronic Registration in all 12 schools. This was first done at the start of last year but now the system has been updated and improved. Some learners have to be promoted to the next grade others are new to the schools (which has been a high number) others have switched schools(From Nkodibe to Masibonisane).

The great thing is that most of the grade 8 learners were registered last year during the time we were in primary schools so they are already in the system.

The reason learners have to be registered electronically is because Mpilonhle aims to go all out electronic this year. This means Nurses,Counsellors, Social Workers and IT will not be using paper.

We have also introduced a new finger print capturing system. This will help in identifying learners with just their finger prints whenever they visit Mpilonhle services. This will increase the confidentiality as well.

It has been a tough schedule so far. Basically its 3 weeks to register 12 high schools. These 12 schools are more than 50 km - 100 km apart. The registration process only occurs during school hours (07h30 - 14h00) . This has been challenging especially with the big schools in enrolment like Masibonisane 1750 and Nkodibe 1200. The heat  has been unbearable and the setting up every morning. The team has been divided into ushers, capturers, fingerprint readers, photographers and shoe distributors. The drivers move the IT equipment and the staff everyday.

The tensions amongst everyone have risen as the pressure has been increasing. The highlight has been the introduction of the FingerPrintReaders to the system. Each learner that goes through registration process has had their finger print captured in the system and they receive a pair of Tom's Shoes. Each learners photo is also being captured.

All the departments have given 100% effort each day in the field. If you have not been out there with them there is no way of understanding how tough its been.

Schools management have also been accomodating to this process. This past week the average learner registration per day is close to 800 learners a day. When the staff get to their homes they just want to sleep.

This registration process will be very helpful throughout the year.
