EDC Develops Mpilonhle’s Health Education Materials

In 2005, while creating the Mpilonhle program, Dr. Bennish approached health education specialists at Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), a Boston-based non-profit with expertise in HIV prevention in South Africa. Bennish and EDC’s Scott Pulizzi met in Durban to design the program’s elements, with an eye to developing materials to address HIV risks and promote other healthy behaviors.

Mpilonhle relies on specially designed mobile units, or trailers, to deliver trained health educators directly to schools in remote communities. The brightly-colored vehicles also include computer laboratories equipped with 24 computers.
