Mpilonhle - A Good Life

Mission

Our Reasons - Why Are We Doing This?

Despite the enormity of the problem of HIV in rural areas, few services currently reach adolescents. Adolescents are of special concern because they have a high risk of contracting HIV and developing other health problems. Patterns of behavior developed during adolescence often continue into adulthood, putting persons at continued risk for HIV and ill health as they grow older. At Mpilonhle, we believe that no person should lack access to health education and treatment, regardless of location or age. In rural areas, adolescents live in scattered households and congregate in large numbers only at school. Because of this, Mpilonhle brings services directly to students at their schools, and uses the schools as a base for providing services to other community members. Having full-time staff at each school would be cost prohibitive. By using mobile units, we can provide services to a greater number of students and community members.

" After I finish grade 12 I know it will help me in the future. Maybe I will be a teller working with the computer. I thank you Mpilonhle because my future is in my hands - it is up to me to reach my goals. "
