For six hours each year, students participate in interactive group sessions covering health promotion and education. These sessions are led by a trained health educator, are adapted to the age of the students and focus on strategies for preventing HIV, including:
- messages on the importance of delaying sex
- being faithful to a single partner
- practicing safe sex, including using condoms if sexually active
- being tested for HIV.
- Substance abuse
- Eating healthy
Sessions also address reducing the stigma associated with HIV and living with HIV if infected.
