Polio and Measles Campaign

South Africa had more cases of measles in the years 2009 to 2010 than the years before that. If not controlled we may see more cases of measles. Measles is caused by a very small germ, called measles virus. It cannot be seen by a naked eye. It is spread when a person suffering from measles coughs or sneezes, passing on the germ to others. It can cause blindness, hearing problems, brain damage, pneumonia and even death.

Right now, many children have received one two doses of measles vaccine during their first two years. Those doses work in about 9 out of

10 children. Outbreaks may still occur amongst those that were not immunized or amongst those in whom the vaccine did not work.

In 19-24 April 2010, Mpilonhle team has visited some of the schools that it is working with to provide measles and polio immunization services, i.e Masibonisane High School 318 learners  immunized, Nkosana High 93 learners immunized,Shikishela Primary 200 learners immunized and Kwa Nyamazane Prmary 93 learners immunized. The second round will from the 24 – 28 May 2010.

There’s always another approach to everything

I spent more than 5 years learning and collecting all the necessary things and knowledge that I needed to be a specialist in the field of work that I do.Little did I know that sometime in life,somewhere in a certain area will I find things that are somehow unexplainable.We often hear stories of people who are posessed by “things”,safe leave it there than to try and really come up with terms that will end up being unexplainable as well.Anyway,I have been very lucky to witness very disturbing cases or things happening to students in some of the schools we work with.A student just goes crazy,scream,be hysterical and very aggressive.Others even strip off their clothes,run around the school,punching whoever that tries to come near them.Some of these learners will often start by hallucinating and then the screaming starts.One special case was a young girl that was screaming;”Ngiyeza!!!!”(Zulu expression meaning I’m coming).She was screaming and running towards the school gate,probably trying to get to wherever this voice is coming from.Pity,only,she was the only one who could hear this voice.The saddest part of this whole thing is that these cases are only GIRLS.These young girls don’t feel comfortable talking about these things at all,they’ll often say.they can not remember anything bout what has just happened.

When I as a nurse screen these learners,all their vital signs,ie blood pressure,pulse,respiratory rate,glucose levels,temperature,etc.Everything is of normal ranges.When I take history from the relatives and friends,the response is that these things are either demonic or indigenous.The one learner I saw yesterday,she’s vevn a stay in patient at this Inyanga,Zulu doctor,and is getting healed there.She went into this state twice in my presence and all we did was to PRAY for her.She slept for a while and when she woke up,she was taken to the inyanga’s house.She had absolutely no memory or what happened to her.

Be optimistic as much as you can

It’s been a long time since I ventilated and shared my deepest and strongest opinions on this page.Anyway,there’s a lot to be put down but so far 2009 has been good to me and I have so much planned for this year.Priority, being the best in everything I do.Striving to achieve as much in this life of 2009 as I can.I’ve developed and cultivated a culture of perseverance which is a special tool to success.Also i have decided to plough into others the seed of optimism and originality.It is not everyday that will be jolly and fun or go your way but we need to find something positive in that uncomfortable situation you find yourself in.Live on and do not stop to dream.

A place where you can find a breathing space of safe and free air.;

It is always wonderful and so welcoming to see people coming out in numbers to the Mpilonhle spot for services.It makes me feel worthy to these people and to know that they trust us so much that the number increases the days after, is an achievement.We visited or were stationed at a place called Dilikhulu,other than warm people,the place is breath taking with its hills and mountains.The beautiful air you breath there says,nature still exists in some part of this world where pollution is still non existing.
