EEP!
Mpilonhle's Environmental Education Programme

This programme aims to increase environmental awareness among youth in an area that is rich in natural beauty and resources, but in which few persons, either children or adults, has an appreciation of the need for conservation or the role of nature reserves in sustaining our common heritage of ecological diversity.

Curriculum

Mpilonhle developed a curriculum on conservation and ecology that involves classroom discussion and hands-on activities both in the classroom and in nature reserves. Teachers K-7 from 5 participating schools were trained to effectively implement the curriculum which is used to add value to their current course materials.

Field Trips

Learners grades 5 to 7 have two trips annually in open vehicles (9 learners per trip plus a chaperone) to Nature Reserves adjacent to their communities. Among the Nature Reserves are the Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve and Phinda game reserve.
